The city of Miami covers approximately 55 square miles along the coast of South Florida, making it pretty much impossible to explore its entirety as a walking pedestrian. Our recommended method of transportation while in Miami would be by car, whether that’s a rental or if you’re ridesharing. Miami International Airport (MIA) is the second largest airport within the state of Florida and the most commonly used for tourists traveling to Miami. This international airport is one of the busiest in the United States serving 45,924,466 passengers in 2019.
Located just 8 miles northwest of Downtown Miami, it is quite easy to get to and from MIA. If you are flying in for a sporting event be sure to leave your self-plenty of time, traffic around any major airport can be unpredictable and you don’t want to be late to the game!
Below are your best available options for how to get to Downtown Miami from MIA so you can start your sports getaway!
∙ Bus: You can get to downtown Miami by taking any of the Mami bus route No(s). 7,37,42,57,133,236 or 238, as they all make stops within the city center. Your total transportation time is 35 minutes, making it a little longer than alternative routes. Though with that being said, the bus only costs about $2.00 USD. Therefore though it will be the longest transportation option it will be the cheapest by a large margin.
∙ Train: You can get to downtown Miami by taking the MIA Train on the Orange Line. Your total transportation time is 25 minutes and only costs about $2.00 USD for a one-way ticket. Making the train option a very affordable yet easy alternative to getting downtown from the airport. Trains tend to come every 15-30 minutes depending on time of day/week.
∙ Taxi: Taking a cab from the airport to downtown Miami may be your best bet in terms of convenience. Taxis from MIA are priced by the meter, but it is just a 15 minute drive and generally costs between $22 - $29 USD, depending on traffic of course. The various taxi companies can be located on the arrival level, outside of the baggage claim areas.

Located just 21 miles north of Downtown Miami, it is quite easy to get to and from FLL. If you are flying in for a sporting event be sure to leave your self-plenty of time, traffic around any major airport can be unpredictable and you don’t want to be late to the game!
