Established in 1869, the Indiana State Museum is located in the White River State Park in downtown Indianapolis. The museum is home to exhibits from science, art, culture and history Indiana that date from prehistoric times and up to present dates. The museum has 40,000 square feet of exhibit space with a collection size of roughly 542,000 pieces of historical significance that cover the natural world, native Americans, cultural history and future of Indiana. Along with its extensive collection of artifacts, the Indiana State Museum is also the site of the state’s largest IMAX screen.

The Indiana State Museum is broken into three floors with each floor having its own exhibits. The first floor you will find; Birth of the Earth, Ancient Seas, R.B. Annis Naturalist’s Lab, Frozen Reign, First Nations, Natural Regions and Legacy Theater. The second floor features the exhibits of; Contested Territory, 19th State, the Hoosier Way, Crossroads of America, Enterprise Indiana, Global Indiana and American Originals. The third and final floor features; Rapp Reception Hall, The Ford Gallery, NiSource Gallery, South Gallery and the Lincoln Financial Foundation Gallery.
